About Us

Carlson Capitol is located in Rockford, Illinois, and was founded in 1945 under Capitol Tool & Die Works, Inc. In 1981, Capitol Tool & Die purchased the assets of W.G. Carlson & Sons. The lid support product line came with the purchase of W.G. Carlson. Our name was then changed to DBA Carlson Capitol Manufacturing Company.

Through the years, we have continued to produce quality metal stampings, and lid supports closures to meet the needs of our customers. As a result of the excellent standards of our stampings, we gradually developed the lid support system and found ready acceptance of this quality product. We are now recognized as having the most dependable closure of its kind in the world marketplace.

Carlson Capitol offers a wide variety of production equipment to produce delicate quality stampings from product print to a finished piece. Our facility includes a fully equipped tool room, press capacity from 10-100 tons, and equipment to handle steel coil stock.

Our Mission Statement

Carlson Capitol is a custom manufacturer of lid supports and metal stampings, dedicated to meeting our customers needs and expectations.

Carlson Capitol lid supports

Carlson Capitol lid supports are approved by the US Consumer Products Safety Commission. Carlson Capitol is a tool and die and metal stampings manufacturer. Besides producing metal stampings for a variety of customers, our lid support is our product line. Because the lid support is our only product line, we have been able to customize our products. We have different brackets, cams, rivets, slides, and plating.

What is a lid support?

It is a piece of hardware that will keep a lid from slamming shut after you release it.

What makes ours unique?

We use eight (8) different spring tensions. The tensions range from 20-inch pounds to 140-inch pounds. Our lid supports are made in the USA.

What kind of plating do we offer?

The three basic types of plating are Statuary Bronze, Black Oxide, and Zinc. If a customer requires any other type of plating, we will make a unique quote for them.
